Angus La Cense, Founder of the Grass-fed Party

Angus La Cense hails from the great state of Montana.

Born on the La Cense Ranch, Angus La Cense spent his formative years running and grazing under the blue, clean skies of the Ranch outside of Dillon, Montana. He spent much of his time eating Bluebunch Wheatgrass, playing hide-and-seek with his brothers and sisters, and chasing his favorite cow-dog, Ruby.

Angus La Cense became interested in grass-fed politics while attending a “History of American Ranching” class at the University of Montana Western. The class opened his eyes to the way that the cattle industry has changed over the last century - changes that were not as evident where Angus grew up at the La Cense Ranch, where many great old cattle rearing traditions are still alive.

After college, Angus La Cense began working with the Corn-Fed Cow Liberation Front, doing backend research on grass, grass-fed animals, and sustainable ranching. After a brush with a cattleman outside of Billings during a CFCLF “operation,” Angus decided that politics was the better way to go.

He lobbied across the state for Ruminant Animal Rights (cows, sheep, goats, bison, etc.), going door-to-door talking about the use of natural resources in food production and the benefits of grass-fed vs. grain-fed. The successes of this grassroots campaign gave Mr. La Cense bi-partisan support from ranchers and cattle alike, which helped to leverage his political recognition as a lobbyist at the Montana State Legislature.

Unable to find a party that adequately addressed his concerns, Mr. La Cense took matters into his own hooves to found the Grass-fed Party. After an unsuccessful run for president on the Grass-fed Party ticket in 2008 and many travels across the United States, Angus La Cense returned to his home in Dillon. He continues to support grass-fed change from his home at the Milk House on the La Cense Ranch, contributing to the Grass-fed Party blog, and working with his community on local grass-fed issues.

Grass-fed Franny, Director of the Grass-fed Party

Francis “Franny” is a woman of all the ages. Franny has run with the wolves, chased the buffalo, tamed the giants, and wept with the sparrows. Born out of the rocky, mineral rich soil of Southwest Montana, Franny is a spirit with a heart of gold. She is devoted to preserving the natural traditions of the land, as well as the people and animals that give name to it.

Franny began working with Angus La Cense back in her college days at the University of Montana at Dillon. She helped Angus found the first campus “Grass-fed For All” club while a student at the University. After college, Franny spent some time roaming, working as a ranch hand on various cattle operations across the country. This experience confirmed to Franny that Grass-fed practices were the best way to manage rangeland and livestock. She moved back to Montana and helped Angus found the Grass-fed Party with the belief that the issues facing Grass-fed farmers and ranchers needed adequate support in the policy making arena of this country.

When Angus decided to run for president in 2008, Franny, his oldest and most trusted friend, became the campaign director. Franny continues to direct the activities and outreach of the Party, as well as contribute to the Grass-fed Party blog. She can be found in Montana and New York, managing the East and West headquarters of Grass-fed Party. She assumed the title “Grass-fed Franny” due her ardent love of plant life.
